Dexter Drown has been praised for his performances of passion, confidence, and flair. Having graduated with a first-class degree in Music from the University of Manchester – and as the winner of the Hargreaves Prize for Dissertation, for his work on the Operas of Handel – Dexter is now studying for a Master’s in Orchestral Conducting at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

In addition to his work with the Derwent Singers, Dexter is currently the Assistant Conductor of The Sinfonia Stellaris (formerly the Kidderminster Festival Orchestra), Musical Director of the – award winning – Sitwell Singers, Conductor of the East Oxford Community Choir and Orchestra, Canzonetta, and the contemporary music ensemble: Hadit Collective. This year, Dexter has joined the conducting staff of the Chester Choral Week.

Dexter’s total investment in the music he is conducting has been widely recognised. He has won the Abingdon Music Festival Conducting Competition, the NODA Best Musical Award, the OMEP Young Music Leader of the Year, and reached the semi-final of the National association of Brass Band Conductors Competition.

This year, Dexter has worked extensively as Chorus Master for conductors including Karl Jenkins, Toby Purser, and George Jackson in Bridgewater Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Usher Hall, York Barbican, and St David’s Hall; he has taken part in masterclasses with Kazuki Yamada, Nicholas Collon, and Paul Murphy; and he has been an assistant conductor to Ben Palmer, Nicholas Braithwaite, Michael Seal, Fraser Golding, and Paul Wingfield – and assistant conductor on a recording, for the BBC, of the music of Michael Wolters.
