About the Choir

IMG_5585

We are an award-winning Derby-based chamber choir which has earned itself a distinguished reputation for performance of all musical genres, from the Renaissance to the presentday. Around twenty-five strong, we perform several concerts each year in the East Midlands, as well as occasional "away fixtures".

As well as undertaking "lighter" concerts, we sing a hugely varied range of music: from Palestrina to Chilcott, be it sacred, secular, serious or light-hearted, well-known or more obscure, a cappella or with the composer's specified accompaniment of - say - organ, piano or orchestra, we will tackle it with enthusiasm and professionalism. Past performances have included Bach's St John Passion, Britten's St Nicholas, Finzi's In Terra Pax, Vivaldi and Monteverdi with Emma Kirkby.

Several young singers have also joined the ranks recently and we are always keen to hear from potential new members: please click on "Join Us" or, for more information, email us at membership@derwentsingers.org.uk

The choir maintains a mailing list and, if you would like to be included on this and receive information regarding future concerts, please email the Publicity Secretary at secretary@derwentsingers.org.uk

Our History

The original group had four singers on each part - sixteen voices in total - singing mostly unaccompanied, but sometimes with a scratch orchestra.
